Seems that from what your saying, men are just better designed for fighting then. Makes sense considering in nature human males are the dominant gender. |

Males were always intended to be the warrior type, even in evolution itself, neanderthal´s (Male) were always much bigger and more muscular then females, even though Females from the neanderthal´s were still much muscular and somehow bigger then an average non trained thirty year old man from todays time. |

OFF-TOPIC #1- jeez i just read over my previous post, loads of mistakes in spelling and lettering but you at least get the jist... #2 @Pelador: your brother ran 200metres in 13 seconds... ... your bro is faster than Usain Bolt who ran 200 metres in little over 19 seconds, the current World Record Holder... impressive... ON-TOPIC- dont exactly agree with what you said bout men being the dominant gender but i get the jist. Nothing to do with that and thats a matter of opinion, for another topic. Its more to do with genes, a man takes a punch that hurts and causes him pain his adrenaline and TESTOSTERONE will pump him into overdrive, a natural defense mechanism, fight or flight situation. In a boxing show one of our females called Laura took on a lass from Edinburgh, say called Tina. Laura is a good upright boxer, doesnt hit hard but has well timed punches that she can throw punches over and over and works best working on the back foot. Tina was something else, she banged her trainers pads HARD, pure power like a guy. I watched her on the pads and thought 'Woah our girl is in trouble...' But then i reminded myself anyone can look impressive on the pads, ive seen it many times where guys destroy the pads but once they get into the ring they dont look half as good. Still compared to Laura, Tina was a monster. Fight went ahead, Tina was awful to watch, she looked too stiff and awkward, she kept coming forward lunging with big punches, trying for the knockout. Laura was clever, popped in her jabs and right crosses, working backwards, slipping and slidimh. You could see her punches where having effect too, Tina was walking right into them doubling the power of the repeated blows, Laura wasnt tagged at all, Tina was wobbling and getting frustrated as Laura grew more confident. Laura was winning the round. 10 seconds away from the end of Round1- BANG- Tina connects with a right over Lauras jaw... she staggers, badly dazed, ref steps in before anymore damage can be done... he gives her 8 count and asks if she wants to continue, Laura says no. still badly shaken, shuffles to her corner. Tina wins. Laura fought much better but Tina wins the bout with a single blow. Laura had never been hit that hard in training, no guy would hit her that hard cause we all have that in-built thing to not hurt a girl, we can make her work hard but no one would wallop her like the way Tina did. I had trained with Laura and like I said before its tricky cause you have to watch your power, likewise if i had trained with someone like Tina id have to be careful cause as much power as she had, she was really easy to hit and open and struggled to cope with getting hit. |

Hey it was a long time ago. We both ran a track in under 13 seconds. Maybe it was 100 metres not 200. We were the fastest in school anyway. I lacked the stamina to keep it up past one lap though. I can remember doing a relay and getting around really quick but then hitting "the wall" near the end. You mentioned that woman didn't want to continue the fight. I don't think I've ever seen a man do that. Ok maybe once but he wasn't cut out for it anyway. |

Fair-dos... kinda thot you must have meant 100metres and if thats the case then jeez that is fricken fast, saw a 6ft+ guy run that in 13 seconds so aye says a lot bout the wee man. To be honest Laura was talking about quitting boxing before that bout took place, she wasnt keen to be there. nothing to do with her opponent Tina (she hadnt seen her hitting pads, we were spying lol) but it was more to do with Laura just not having the heart for boxing anymore. It was strange though, as soon as Laura was in the ring and the bell went for the start of the round Lauras face lit up and she was back-in-the-saddle, all that doubt was gone and it was just a look and body language of Game-On! Was a shame though seeing her lose to someone who wasnt technically as good as her and of whom she was convincingly beating and looked liked Tina was close to being TKo'd herself. Another point is that i have seen guys quit multiple times, not (usually) in an official amateur boxing bout but more in Charity Boxing bouts. Ie group of lads train for 2/3 months in boxing and choose charity of there choice and compete with someone of their level in the ring. So its a one off for them. These lads didnt quit cause they where hurt though... more because their fitness let them down and they lost that important 'Patience' and 'Staying power' once the other guy started landing more punches than them. No good to see, its like quitting that 100metre dash when youve cleared three-quarters of the race... just sad to see, no competitive edge in some lads, and some of those lads where footballers and big-mouth sort of guys (you know the sort who brags and struts). To me quitting on those grounds is the worst... One time ive seen a lad quit in an official boxing bout simply because his opponent smashed his side in with repeated big right hand hooks cause he hesitated! lol the lad was nearly running out the ring by the time the ref stepped in. That lads trainer was so disgusted at him for shaming himself and their club (turned out he done this sort-a-thing before) that he tore his boxing record book in half- Ouch!! |

I didn't technically stop. I actually crawled the rest of the way lol. I hate giving up, especially when I'm winning. My legs stopped working and I had a massive stitch. I think I ran too quickly too soon. I don't know if I could stand being repeatedly hit in the face. I can see why those people gave up, but then they shouldn't be fighters should they. |

To be honest hats off to woman who do compete in boxing, they know its not their game and that men have pre-dominately been in control of the sport since day 1. That for me takes a lot of courage and determination. Respect them for it. I know myself on some level i have felt the same as them too cause when i walked into the boxing gym i already felt out of my depth. I was told this repeatedly from various experienced trainers and coaches when i started out, often being laughed at and told to leave... I was shy and quiet and looked very young for my age (started 21, looked 16ish lol)... For some reason as much as it made me feel gutted and low in myself didnt deter me and made me train harder and push myself. Now im reveered and respected to some degree cause of my ability, i kept at it, im not the best but im not that bad either in what i do. I think one guy (who went on to become my mate) for some reason saw potential in me. That vote of confidence gave me a tiny spark. I was aggressive, didnt step back and had some technical ability and rythm and i was competing with the bigger stronger guys in sparring and standing toe-to-toe with them, coming back for more. @ Nusu: aye too true but for a lot of these lads it was a one off, not something they where looking at for a future (just as well), for me a lot of them was surprising that they did quit in the manner that they did OR even that they did at all. Just goes to show you really, cant judge a book by its cover... You do get a lot of guys who in their heads are Superman but in reality fight worse than PeeWee Herman... |

PeeWee Herman>>>>>>>>>>>>SSJ 4 Broly. Everyone knows that. Seriously though, I think women's full contact sports such as boxing and MMA are getting increasingly popular and the athletes more proffesional and skilled. So it's possible that maybe in as little as 10 to 15 years we're gonna be seing women fighting in the UFC and boxing at main events. |

Ah. I haven't taken a look into this thread in a few days. In any event, I elect to shove it. Oh and this: "#2 @Pelador: your brother ran 200metres in 13 seconds... ... your bro is faster than Usain Bolt who ran 200 metres in little over 19 seconds, the current World Record Holder... impressive..." Made me laugh my ***** riiight off. Edited by Dark, Oct 18 2010, 04:00 AM.

Lol, not all males in nature are the dominant gender. For example, female spiders are the powa. Women may not be as physically strong, but we have different advantages when it comes to other physical performances. Women have better flexibility and quickness.
As you can see, they performed better in certain tests. Fighting may not be a woman's fortee, but if they start young, they can improve dramatically. Any woman can improve dramatically if they take it serious and workout. A lot of woman don't workout because they think it's a male activity. They have been made to believe that. There is a study that shows that young girls play 3 times less than boys outside. It's madness! Women will improve in boxing as long as the competitiveness is there. |

I'd just like to mention that I specifically stated human males and didn't just generalise all other species. Just thought I'd mention that. |
